The New York Yankees could be making some big moves this offseason, hoping to upgrade their roster and make a push for the first World Series since 2009.

A void at center field was addressed on Tuesday, after Trent Grisham accepted the Yankees $22.05 million qualifying offer. What kind of moves can the Yankees make next?

Senior MLB insider Jeff Passan addressed multiple free agency scenarios in an article, and he mentioned that former Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette may be a piece that New York is interested in.

How could Bo Bichette upgrade the Yankees’ lineup?

Bichette, 27, declined the Toronto Blue Jays’ $22 million qualifying offer for the 2026 season and elected to test free agency. After being elected to the 2025 All-MLB Second Team, Bichette will get interest from a lot of teams.

Now, the Yankees could be one team interested in his bat while also addressing the struggles at shortstop.

Passan included New York as a possible suitor, saying, “The Yankees could use an upgrade over Anthony Volpe and Jose Caballero… Even if there isn’t a perfect fit for Bichette, the opportunity to land a 27-year-old infielder with a premium bat and not have to give up any prospects is rare.”

Bichette would be a huge upgrade for the Yankees’ batting order. In 2025, he finished with a .311 batting average, .357 on-base percentage, .483 slugging percentage, and a .840 OPS while hitting 18 home runs and 94 RBI.
