One of the markets that has been generating a ton of interest this past week has been the closer market. Plenty of teams are looking to bolster the back-end of their bullpen, and there are a ton of interesting names on the open market.

Multiple big-time closers are looking for a new opportunity, like Edwin Diaz or Kyle Finnegan. Some names have experience closing games out, but could also be used in the seventh or eighth inning, like Luke Weaver or Robert Suarez.

No matter how you look at it, there are a ton of options for teams looking to make some bullpen upgrades. However, with the interest level, some of these teams might want to pull the trigger quicker than they would like.

Earlier this week, the GM Meetings took place. This is a chance for all GMs to sit down, chat, gauge the market of free agents, and gauge any level of interest for potential trades.

Here, plenty of teams gauged the closer market, including the San Francisco Giants, via The Athletic’s Jim Bowden.

“Teams like the Braves, Orioles, Cubs, Twins, Dodgers, Diamondbacks, Giants, Tigers, Rangers and Reds were actively involved in discussions for closers, along with the Yankees from a distance.”

The Giants went with a handful of closers during the 2025 season. They started with Ryan Walker, who lost his job due to inconsistencies, and the club then went with Camilo Doval, but traded him ahead of the deadline.

After that, they went with Randy Rodriguez, who underwent Tommy John surgery back in September, so he likely will not be available next season.

Expect San Francisco to be aggressive in their pursuit of a high-leverage arm. And with the amount of attention this market is getting, do not expect them to wait around.
