Major League Baseball teams spent much of Tuesday getting their 40-man rosters in order.
To help that happen, the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays pulled off a four-player trade with one another.
The details were reported by White Sox reporter James Fegan:
- White Sox get: OF Everson Pereira, IF Tanner Murray
- Rays get: RP Yoendrys Gomez, RP Steven Wilson
Pereira’s name has the most shine to it. He was once a top prospect in the Yankees’ system.
This past season, though, Pereira batted just .138 in 65 MLB at bats for the Rays. He’s still just 24, so there may be a bit of untapped potential there.
Murray was a fourth-round pick in 2020. He played the entire 2025 season at Triple-A, batting .241 with 29 doubles, 18 homers and 58 RBI.
Gomez is 26 years old and has thrown in 27 MLB games across three seasons.
In 2025, Gomez had a 5.17 ERA split between the Yankees, Dodgers and White Sox. He struck out 58 batters in 62.2 innings.
Wilson is 31 and has 201 combined MLB appearances across the last four seasons, two with the Padres and two with the White Sox.
The right-hander has a 3.86 career MLB ERA with 195 strikeouts in 196 innings pitched.
This move might not matter in the long run, but it could also bolster Tampa Bay’s bullpen or give the White Sox a young position player still with a chance to pan out.
