he Toronto Blue Jays have been at the center of the MLB action for several months now. After an impressive 2025 regular season capped off by a World Series appearance, they are eager to repeat their success. At the center of it all is the potential futures of Bo Bichette and Kyle Tucker.

The Blue Jays have already made a splash in the early offseason. First, Shane Bieber decided to stick around instead of parting ways for a bigger paycheque. Then, Toronto locked up arguably the best ace available in free agency, Dylan Cease. More recently, they added free agent Cody Ponce, who has spent the last three seasons playing international baseball.

The winter meetings begin this Sunday in Florida. This is typically the busiest phase of the offseason. It’s when teams have the most money to spend and the biggest motivation to do so. Will the Blue Jays sign Bichette, Tucker, both, or neither? Will they sign another pitcher or make a trade for one? While fans wait for that situation to play out, Toronto has made a different transaction.

Toronto Blue Jays Sign Isay Veras

According to the Blue Jays’ website, on December 4, 2025, the team signed catcher Isay Veras to a minor league contract. According to Veras’ MLB page, he is a 5-foot-9, 180-lb switch-hitter who catches right-handed.

Veras split his time in 2025 between Light-Blue North and Red-North of the Amateur Scouting League. For Light-Blue North, he played two games, earning six at-bats. He collected one run, one hit, one walk, and one stolen base. Bringing him into the organization will allow him to round out his game under management’s watchful eye.

Signing Veras doesn’t stop the Blue Jays from making other moves. However, it adds to the narrative that they are one of the busiest teams this winter.

This signing comes just over one week after they signed shortstop Rodolfo Castro to a one-year deal worth $740,000.

Bo Bichette to the Red Sox? Kyle Tucker to the Blue Jays?

At the time of this writing, the Blue Jays are still in on Bichette. Speculation will continue to circulate until the infielder signs a contract.

However, MLB insider Keegan Matheson believes that the 27-year-old Bichette could command a decent payday. Matheson wrote that a contract between $182 and $200 million is not unreasonable for the shortstop/second baseman.

The Boston Red Sox could be a contender for Bichette’s services. According to Ken Rosenthal & Will Sammon, the Red Sox see Bichette as an alternative to Alex Bregman if they fail to orchestrate a reunion.

The curveball in all of this is Toronto’s interest in Tucker. The slugger is the free agent generating the most interest from a majority of teams.

Buster Olney reports that Tucker’s best shot at a big contract will come sooner rather than later.

“Kyle Tucker has been projected as a $400 million-plus player,” Olney wrote for ESPN on December 5, 2025. “But it might behoove him to move quickly if he gets an early, aggressive bid from the Jays (or some other team).”

This comes on the heels of earlier reports detailing that Tucker toured the Dunedin facilities in Florida. While touring facilities sounds exciting, it isn’t as exciting as a signed contract.

With the Winter Meetings this weekend, it’s possible that at least one more domino falls for the Blue Jays. For a team that has been busy so far in November and early December, fans shouldn’t expect anything less.
