The Red Sox receive encouraging signals in their pursuit of an Alex Bregman reunion. lt

Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox took a big step in the right direction during the 2025 season. Boston finished the year with an 89-73 record and made the playoffs as a wild card team. This was notable for the Red Sox, as this was the first time that they got back into the postseason since 2021.

However, unfortunately for the Red Sox, their playoff run ended up being very short. This is because they lost to the New York Yankees in the Wild Card round, falling in the series 2-1. It was especially tough for Boston to lose this series, as they were in a good spot after winning Game 1 against the Yankees.

Now, after losing to their biggest rivals in the playoffs, the Red Sox have been aggressively looking to improve their roster. They already made some moves this offseason, as they brought in pitchers like Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo. Yet, with Boston having big expectations for the 2026 season, they should not be done making moves yet.

One of the players who the Red Sox have been heavily linked to this offseason is star slugger Alex Bregman. It is understandable that the Red Sox want to bring Bregman back, as he just had a strong season for them in 2025.

Now, a new promising update has been provided on the possibility of the Red Sox successfully bringing back Bregman this offseason.

Red Sox Predicted to Sign Star Infielder Alex Bregman in Free Agency

In a recent article for ESPN, David Schoenfield predicted where each top remaining MLB free agent will sign. When it came to Bregman, Schoenfield predicted that the Red Sox will be the team that ends up winning the sweepstakes.

“In the end, a return to Boston still makes the most sense. The Red Sox went after Schwarber and Alonso, and they need Bregman’s right-handed bat to help balance out the lefty-heavy lineup,” Schoenfield wrote.

With the Red Sox needing more pop in their lineup, it would make all the sense in the world for them to bring Bregman back to Boston. He would offer them another much-needed star, and he has already proven that he can handle the pressure of playing in a big market like Boston.

In 114 games this past season with the Red Sox, Bregman had 18 home runs, 62 RBIs, and a .273 batting average. With numbers like these, there is no question that the three-time All-Star made a big difference for Boston in 2025.

Red Sox Have Competition in the Bregman Sweepstakes

While the Red Sox have been predicted to land Bregman, it is well known that they have plenty of competition in the sweepstakes. Three teams that have been heavily linked to Bregman this offseason include the Arizona Diamondbacks, Chicago Cubs, and Detroit Tigers.

With Bregman being a legitimate star, it makes sense that he is generating a lot of interest this offseason. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can end up successfully bringing him back to Boston. If they do, he would give their current roster a nice boost.
