Ranger Suárez emerges as a top-five Mets target after new reports spark buzz.ht

Phillies' Ranger Suarez named as top-five fit for Mets after reports image

The New York Mets will have their eyes set on some of the top players on the market this winter, whether it be in a trade or free agency.

On the trade front, the Mets are in as good a position as any team in Major League Baseball to go out and make a blockbuster deal.

The reality of the situation is that the Mets’ farm system is arguably the best in baseball, and they should even have the ammo to compete for a trade for guys like Tarik Skubal, if he becomes available.

However, it remains uncertain if that’ll be the case, and unfortunately, the Philadelphia Phillies could be impacted by them not wanting to move on from some of their prospects and going the free agent route.

Will Phillies bring Suarez back?

All indications suggest that the Phillies won’t bring back Ranger Suarez, but it’s also important to never say never. If he leaves, however, Danny Abriano of SNY believes he’d be a great fit in New York.

“Suarez, who turned 30 in August, might be the safest bet — but he’s also the least imposing. He has allowed 8.6 hits per nine during his eight-year career, is not a big strikeout guy, and has never thrown 158 innings or more in a season…

“While Suarez’s fastball velocity is well below league average (his four-seamer averaged 91.3 mph in 2025 while his sinker averaged 90.1 mph), his secondary pitches grade out as elite — Suarez’s breaking run value was in the 87th percentile this past season, while his offspeed run value was in the 90th percentile,” he wrote.

It isn’t the worst thing to lose someone like Suarez, despite how good he is on the mound, but losing him to the rival Mets would be a worse scenario type of situation for the Phillies.

That’s something they’ll have to factor in if they’re content with losing him.
