he Boston Red Sox have been linked to Bo Bichette on multiple occasions this offseason, most notably by WEEI’s Rob Bradford.
On Friday, another Bichette connection emerged in the form of an article from The Athletic‘s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon, who jointly suggested that Bo could be an alternative big-time signing for the Red Sox if they don’t end up with Alex Bregman this winter.
“Retaining free-agent third baseman Alex Bregman is a priority for the Boston Red Sox,” Rosenthal and Sammon wrote (subscription required). “But some with the club view Bo Bichette, previously a division rival with the Toronto Blue Jays, as an intriguing alternative.”
“Bichette … cannot match the clubhouse presence of Bregman, who is one of the game’s leading mentors,” Rosenthal and Sammon continued. “But Bichette is four years younger … In addition, Bichette has always hit well at Fenway Park, batting .329 with a .907 OPS in 157 plate appearances. The Red Sox could use him at second base, a position he played for the first time in the World Series. Before that, he was exclusively a shortstop for the Jays.”
“Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow is on record as saying that Trevor Story will remain at short in 2026,” Rosenthal and Sammon added. “If the Red Sox signed Bichette, Marcelo Mayer presumably would man third base and Bichette could play second.”

A signing of this nature for the Red Sox would definitely make Blue Jays fans feel some type of way, but then again, Bregman has been linked to Toronto this offseason. Anything and everything is still on the table for these two.
The Red Sox are also reportedly eyeing Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber among their top free-agent targets as Boston looks to bolster its offense heading into 2026.
