New Blue Jays Prediction Sparks Uproar: Franchise Expected to Add $172M Star, Move On From Core Player. tn

The Toronto Blue Jays had one of the best offenses in the MLB last season. They finished sixth in the AL with 191 home runs. To catch up with the top-ranked New York Yankees (274 HRs), the Blue Jays need to make some moves.

One move they can make is ensuring the return of Bo Bichette. They have been linked to both Cody Bellinger and Kyle Tucker recently. However, one bat who could turn the tide is former 41-homer infielder Alex Bregman. One MLB analyst has predicted that the Blue Jays will walk away from free agency with Bregman in tow.

Toronto Blue Jays Predicted to Sign Alex Bregman

Nick Ashbourne of Sportsnet recently published a free agency prediction for the Blue Jays’ offseason. He predicted several different contracts the team could sign, but the one for Bregman should stand out to Toronto fans.

Ashbourne assessed how the potential signing of Bregman would affect the current roster.

“The Blue Jays have two viable third basemen in Ernie Clement and Addison Barger,” Ashbourne wrote on November 21, 2025. “But the former could go to second with the latter heading to right field if Toronto signs Bregman. The Blue Jays would probably rather make their marquee position player acquisition a left-handed hitter for lineup balance purposes.”

“But Bregman is a good enough batter that he would unequivocally upgrade the lineup.”

Ashbourne believes that signing Bregman means saying goodbye to Bichette.

“Adding Bregman would mean letting Bo Bichette go, barring other notable moves,” Ashbourne reasons. “But it would give the team a stellar defensive infield without losing too much offense.”

It’s worth noting that last November, the Blue Jays expressed interest in Bregman.

How Much Will Bregman Cost the Blue Jays?

Bregman contract predictions are relatively consistent across the board.

Jon Heyman has predicted a seven-year, $172 million contract for Bregman. He also writes that, “The Tigers, Jays, Mariners, and possibly Phillies and Cubs also could make sense,” as potential fits.

The Athletic expects Bregman to earn a deal that is a little shorter and for fewer dollars than Heyman’s prediction. They predict a six-year, $171 million contract is in order.

MLBTradeRumors also has publicly known free agency predictions. They believe the third basement is in line for a $160 million, six-year contract.

“The market will decide whether he improved his standing otherwise since turning down last winter’s six-year offer, $171.5MM offer from the Tigers,” the site wrote earlier in the offseason. “Which included deferred money and an opt-out after the second year.”

They added that agreeing to a $160 million deal would feel poetic in a way for the slugger.

“Bregman reportedly sought seven years and $200MM from the Tigers,” they wrote on November 6, 2025. “He earned $40MM in 2025, though a good portion of that will be paid well into the future.  There would be a certain elegance to adding $160MM in new money to the $40MM he made this year.”

Is it worth it for the Blue Jays to sacrifice their shot at bringing back Bichette? Does the answer to that question change if they can get someone who has better defense and a similar offense?

At least one analyst believes that is a possibility.
