Myles Straw Is Quietly Leading a Blue Jays Push to Bring Kyle Tucker North of the Border.dp

It seems like the Toronto Blue Jays are legitimate contenders to earn Kyle Tucker’s services.
Myles Straw and Tucker were both drafted in 2015 by the Houston Astros and even made their big league debuts in the same season (2018). They played parts of four seasons together before Straw was traded to the Cleveland Guardians. Well, it looks as if the two can reunite in Canada.

Acquired last off-season, it’s been Straw who has led the recruiting charge for the Blue Jays to sign Tucker. In a recent Instagram post, Tucker announced he has a child on the way, with Straw responding, “Let’s go! Now come to the Blue Jays, I can help babysit”.
Tucker is one of, if not the best, free agents available this off-season. In 2025 with the Chicago Cubs, the 28-year-old outfielder slashed .266/.377/.464 with 22 home runs in 597 plate appearances, nearly walking (14.6 BB%) as much as he struck out (14.7 K%) while posting average defence.

Adding Tucker would be a game-changer for the Blue Jays, especially if they find a way to retain Bo Bichette’s services as well, which seems a bit unlikely. Tucker would give the Blue Jays a legitimate top-of-the-order bat, as Tucker usually batted second in the Cubs’ order in 2025.
Imagine a world with George Springer, Tucker, and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as the team’s first three hitters. Like Straw, Springer happens to be a former teammate of Tucker’s with the Astros, although their overlap was brief. Tucker only received 72 plate appearances in each of the 2018 and 2019 seasons, before playing the entirety of the 2020 season with the Astros, Springer’s final year with the team.

Where Tucker will land likely won’t be decided until sometime in December, but the Blue Jays are considered one of the favourites to land the 28-year-old, alongside the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees. With a trip to the World Series this season, Toronto is now a prime destination for free agents, so expect them to be busy this off-season.
