The Philadelphia Phillies are heading into a pivotal offseason and will need to make some key decisions with their outgoing free agents and their roster.

Kyle Schwarber and Ranger Suarez are the two biggest outgoing free agents for the Phillies, each receiving the $22.025 million qualifying offer from Dave Dombrowski and the Phillies.

But, as Todd Zolecki of MLB.com notes, both Schwarber and Suarez made the same, expected decision regarding this $22.025 million qualifying offer.

Kyle Schwarber, Ranger Suarez make expected $22 million Phillies decision

Both Schwarber and Suarez have rejected the Phillies $22.025 million qualifying offer. They’re both now officially free agents, and their rejection gives the Phillies some draft-pick insurance if they sign elsewhere this offseason.

In a rare twist, four players, Gleyber Torres of the Detroit Tigers, Trent Grisham of the New York Yankees, Brandon Woodruff of the Milwaukee Brewers, and Shota Imanaga of the Chicago Cubs, all accepted the qualifying offer.

Those decisions have made the free agent pool shallower, but fortunately for the Phillies, none of those players were real targets this offseason.

Schwarber and Suarez will garner plenty of interest and will land a much stronger deal than the one-year, $22.025 million from the Phillies’ qualifying offer.

This was the expected outcome for both, so there’s no surprise with either of their decisions for the Phillies. Schwarber is a priority re-signing candidate, while Suarez is likely to depart in free agency.

Philadelphia now has its work cut out for it, as Schwarber is bound to garner plenty of interest this offseason, with teams like the Toronto Blue JaysBoston Red Sox, and even the Pittsburgh Pirates all expressing interest in the 2025 NL MVP runner-up.
