It’s sounding more and more as though the Philadelphia Phillies could part ways this offseason with a former All-Star who struggled in 2025.
The Phillies are expected to be active this offseason after falling short to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. Despite boasting one of the best records in baseball this season, Philadelphia’s roster could look completely different with key players including Kyle Schwarber, J.T. Realmuto and Ranger Suárez all set to test free agency.
Losing to the Dodgers displayed how the Phillies need to shake things up. As the Phillies weigh their options this offseason, one player whose future with the team remains uncertain is 29-year-old third baseman Alec Bohm.
Bohm’s name popped up in trade rumors last offseason, but with only one year of team control left on the third baseman’s contract, ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan emphasized that his time in Philadelphia is likely over.
“Bohm being dealt could depend on the Phillies’ other moves,” McDaniel and Passan wrote Tuesday. “If they miss out on Kyle Schwarber and pivot to Alex Bregman, Bohm is as good as gone. If they spend their money elsewhere, they still could move him and either acquire a stopgap at third or run with top prospect Aidan Miller. In a winter of change in Philadelphia, Bohm is among the likeliest of Phillies not to return.
“Bohm has one year of control left at roughly $10 million, pending arbitration. His numbers regressed a bit in 2025, with his walk and strikeout rate, along with his power numbers and defensive metrics, all taking a step back. If he could get back to his 2023-24 levels of power (50-plus extra-base hits both seasons), Bohm could be a nice bounce-back candidate.”
Bohm could be a bounce-back candidate next season, but the All-Star third baseman regressed at the plate this season. Despite posting a .287 average, the 29-year-old lacked the power he displayed over the past two seasons and drove in only 59 runs. With only one year left on his contract, Bohm could be a trade candidate if the team won’t sign him to a long-term contract.
The Phillies have some important personnel decisions to make this offseason.
