How A’ja Wilson handled Tom Brady’s high praise during a season that’s already turning heads.mt

NFL great and Las Vegas Aces minority owner Tom Brady heaped praises on A’ja Wilson for the spectacular season she is having. And the two-time WNBA champion appreciated the gesture of the sports legend.

The exchange took place on X, formerly Twitter, after seven-time Super Bowl champion Brady on Thursday shared the Aces’ post of Wilson making history by breaking the previous WNBA record for most points scored in a single season.

Brady wrote:

“There are so many many incredible players in the @WNBA right now. But there’s only one @_ajawilson22.”

A’ja Wilson no sooner responded to the post, showing her appreciation for the props given to her by the superstar quarterback, saying:

“[Praise emoji] appreciate you!!”

"Appreciate you": A

A’ja Wilson set the new league scoring record in their 86-75 victory over the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night on the road. She broke the previous mark of 939 points set by Jewell Loyd of Seattle in 2023 with a jumper with 26.4 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

She finished the night with 27 points to take her total to 956 points with still four games remaining in their regular-season schedule.

Meanwhile, Brady became officially part of the Aces family after his purchase of a minority stake in the team was approved by WNBA owners last year. On being part of the organization, he said it is an extension of his appreciation for women’s sports and wants to contribute to its continued growth.

A’ja Wilson thanks teammates for latest scoring feat

A’ja Wilson is proud of establishing a new WNBA scoring record in a single season, but she admits she would not have done it without the help of her Las Vegas Aces teammates.

Following their victory, Wilson spoke about breaking the season scoring record, highlighting the key role that her teammates played in helping her achieve the feat.

She said, by way of The Associated Press:

“I don’t want to sound cliche when I say this but, I don’t get any of that without every single teammate along the way. I’m so grateful to be able to play with selfless women. My teammates are the heartbeat. They keep me going. I don’t get any points without them passing me the basketball.”

With 956 points and with four games remaining in their regular season schedule, A’ja Wilson is in a solid position to become the first WNBA player to breach the 1,000-point mark in a season.

In the ongoing campaign, Wilson is averaging team-highs of 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, and 1.9 steals in 34 minutes per contest.

The Aces (23-13) next play on Friday against Caitlin Clark and the Fever (19-18).
