Fans attending the Oregon women’s basketball team’s 80-55 win over Army at Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday were treated to a surprise.
During a halftime fan free-throw shooting competition, a woman with black hair and glasses displayed flawless form, sinking shot after shot like a pro.
As it turned out, the woman with the deft touch was indeed a professional basketball player.
Underneath the wig, glasses and fake nose was WNBA All-Star Sabrina Ionescu, who starred at Oregon from 2016 to 2020.
Ionescu’s disguise even fooled Oregon coach Kelly Graves, who unknowingly talked to his former star before the game
“I know she fooled me before the game,” Graves told reporters. “I had no idea who I was talking to when I was talking to that person.”
Graves knew Ionescu was in Oregon but didn’t expect to see her at Oregon’s game. Graves said Ionescu told him she had too much going on in Portland to attend the game.
“She’s a liar,” Graves said jokingly. “No, I’m just kidding. We love Sabrina. I think that’s really neat.”
