The Los Angeles Dodgers received a message regarding a potential pursuit of free-agent hitter Bo Bichette. Last season with the Toronto Blue Jays, Bichette batted .311 with 181 hits, 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, and 78 runs scored in 139 games in 2025, per StatMuse.
Nonetheless, the Dodgers could pursue the 27-year-old because of a recent decision the player has reportedly made.
On December 17, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported, citing sources, that the two-time All-Star has let potential suitors know that he is prepared, willing, and able to move to second base, the position he played for the first time in his big-league career during this year’s World Series.
As a result, with Bichette being flexible with where he wants to play in the infield, Dodgers Territory’s Clint Pasillas believes that the infielder would help Los Angeles solve two positions on defense and at the plate.
“This is a dude who’s led the league a couple of times in hits in the American League,” Pasillas said on the December 18 edition of “Dodgers Territory.” “He has a little bit of pop. He’s a postseason performer, but something we need to really take into consideration. We’ve talked a lot about the Dodgers needing an outfielder. Of course, we endured and survived Michael Conforto in left field last year, which was a rough experience.
“But the Dodgers at second base were not good offensively last year either during the regular season—a slash line of .239 with a .293 on-base percentage and a .357 slugging percentage. Bo Bichette immediately fixes second base for the Dodgers. Then you kick Tommy Edman out to the outfield, whether it’s left field or center field.”
Can the Dodgers Get Favorable Terms With Bo Bichette?
Co-host Alanna Rizzo also backed the Dodgers’ pursuit of Bichette, if the reigning World Series champions can secure the player on terms suitable for the team.
“Obviously, he’s a great shortstop, but he is willing to change positions, right?“ Rizzo said on the same broadcast. “So, let’s say he is willing to play second base. Ultimately, I do think that if you’re going to sign Bo Bichette, you have to be thinking long term. Bo Bichette is looking for seemingly a seven- to eight-year deal worth $200 million-plus.
“If that’s the case, maybe you sign him with the Dodgers as a second baseman. Keep Mookie [Betts] at short. You put Bo Bichette at second, who is willing to make the move. You have Max Muncy at third until Max is no longer an everyday third baseman. If Bo Bichette is willing later in his career to move to third, you take the bat, the defense, the age, and all the other factors.”
The Dodgers Are a Fit for Bo Bichette
In the report from Feinsand, the MLB insider said Los Angeles presents an ideal fit for Bichette if he chooses to leave the Blue Jays and join the team that defeated Toronto in the 2025 World Series.
“Bichette looked solid at second base during the World Series, and while it was a small, seven-game sample size, it was enough to convince teams that he can handle the position,“ Feinsand wrote. “Far more clubs are looking for help at second base than shortstop, so Bichette’s willingness to switch positions should bring more teams into play for his services.
“The Blue Jays could move Andrés Giménez to shortstop and play Bichette at second base if he returns, while the Dodgers, Red Sox, Giants, Mariners, and Rangers are also potential fits.”
