Brewers Fans Are Stunned as Pat Murphy’s Announcement Elevates Their Skipper to Elite Coaching History.vt

Since taking over for Craig Counsell, Pat Murphy has guided the Brewers to 190 wins in two seasons. In 2025, he got them their first playoff series win in seven years. Their 97 regular season victories were the most in franchise history, vaulting the Brewers from 6.5 games back in the NL Central to their third straight division title – by a comfortable margin. They made more franchise history by winning 14 in a row to begin the month of August. Fan attendance reached its highest figure (2,650, 089) since pre-COVID times.

Murphy did it all with a $137 million payroll, per Spotrac, on a roster heavily reliant on rookies.

It was enough to earn him back-to-back Manager of the Year honors. He joins Atlanta’s Bobby Cox (2004-05), Tampa Bay’s Kevin Cash (2020-21), and the 2025 AL winner, Guardians skipper Stephen Vogt.Ezoic

Murphy dominates in MOY voting again; young Brewers have only good things to come under his tutelage

Per beat reporter Curt Hogg, Murphy was an obvious choice among voters. Of 30 first-place bids, Murphy claimed 27. Only one voter left him off the ballot.

He blew away even the most successful Brewers managers in their first two years with the club. Ron Roenicke came in second at 179 wins.

Murphy made sure to congratulate his AL counterpart. A major-league catcher for 10 seasons, Vogt briefly joined the Brewers in 2017, when Murphy was the bench coach.

“I’m so happy for him, man. I couldn’t be happier,” Murphy said via MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy. “I’ve already texted him. He’s well-deserving and does a great job with his club. He’s going to be a Hall of Fame manager, I really believe that.”

A member of the organization since 2015, Murphy, 66, is already shaping up to be a legend in the managerial archives. For a team as young as this one, his wisdom and experience are a perfect fit. Next up: reaching the World Series for the first time since 1982, the Brewers’ only other berth, when they played in the AL.

It’s a lot to ask in year three on the job – moreover, Milwaukee can’t go out and buy a ring in free agency –  but Murphy has set the bar sky-high. He, his handful of veterans, and a gaggle of rookies-turned-sophomores will do their best to improve upon what should go down as a magical 2025 campaign.
