Boston’s offseason takes a hit as a key infield target signs elsewhere in the AL. lt

Matt Strahm isn’t the only former Boston Red Sox player being acquired by the Kansas City Royals on Friday.

Soon after news broke that the left-handed reliever was traded from the Philadelphia Phillies to the Royals, El Extrabase’s Daniel Alvarez-Montes reported that infielder Abraham Toro had agreed to a minor-league contract with Kansas City.

“INF Abraham Toro has agreed to a deal with the Kansas City Royals, sources tell @ElExtrabase. It’s a minor league deal with Spring Training invitation,” Alvarez-Montes posted on X. “Toro, who turns 29 tomorrow, played in 77 games with the Red Sox in 2025. He has seven seasons of big league experience.”

Toro spent the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Houston Astros (2019 to 2021), Seattle Mariners (2021 to 2022), Milwaukee Brewers (2023) and then-Oakland Athletics (2024) before signing with the Red Sox last January.

The 28-year-old played 77 games with Boston in 2025 and 51 contests with Triple-A Worcester.

Toro posted seven home runs, 27 RBIs and a .239/.289/.371 slash line in the majors this season across 284 plate appearances.
