Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is not shy to show off his special bond with his daughter.
That was evident from a heartwarming ceremonial first pitch made by his daughter, eight-year-old Vlaimel, earlier this month. But more details have been revealed about just how special a connection the two have.
In a recent MLB.com article written by Keegan Matheson, Guerrero opened up about his relationship with Vlaimel and how they chose to spend her eighth birthday. Luckily, the Jays were playing at home against the Kansas City Royals, giving the Jays’ superstar plenty of time to spend with his daughter.
The activity of choice was making friendship bracelets together, and he opted to make one that said “love” on it.
“I say ‘love,’ because every time I come home from the ballpark, no matter what, even if I go 0-for-3 or 0-for-4, when I see her, my day changes,” Guerrero told Matheson. “Every time I see her, I feel love in my heart. I thank God I have my daughter with me all the time.”
For her bracelet, Vlaimel opted to go with the word “fun” to describe her father, something that every Jays fan can agree is a great way to describe Guerrero’s on-field personality.
It seems as though Vladdy has also shared his signature “hush” celebration with his daughter, as the two showed it off together during that aforementioned first pitch, along with a special handshake.
Guerrero is enjoying a fantastic season as the Blue Jays are soaring at the top of the American League standings. Much of this is due to Vladdy’s clutch hitting and superb defensive plays out at first base.
It’s nice to know that Toronto fans will not have to worry about Vladdy’s future after signing a massive 14-year contract before the season. It was a deal that he signed partly due to his daughter’s love of the city.
“One of the main reasons that I signed my contract in Toronto, it was for Vlaimel,” Guerrero said.
