A former AL wins leader could be the quiet solution to the Giants’ rotation needs. lt

One thing that was on the San Francisco Giants‘ minds heading into the offseason was to improve the rotation. They have a great one-two punch with Logan Web and Robbie Ray, but need some help at the backend.

To help fill their hole, the front office went out and signed Adrian Houser to a two-year, $22 million deal. He is coming off a season with the Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, where he posted an 8-5 record with a 3.31 ERA.

However, that might not be enough. There are still some great starting pitching options on the open market who would not break the bank.

One starting pitcher who is looking for his next opportunity is Chris Bassitt. He is coming off a strong season with the Toronto Blue Jays, where he posted an 11-9 record with a 3.96 ERA across 170.1 innings of work.

The 2023 AL wins leader is also coming off a strong performance in the postseason.

According to Around the Foghorn’s Nick San Miguel, Chris Bassitt is a free agent that fans should keep their eyes on.

“A similar pitcher to Adrian Houser still available in free agency is Chris Bassitt. He is a solid pitcher who posted a 3.96 ERA last season. He could probably be had on a two-year contract in the $30-35 million range which seems to be the price range the Giants are more comfortable with.”

Bassitt likely won’t receive a long-term deal and could be relatively cheap for the organization. He would provide a great No. 3 option behind Webb and Ray.

You also cannot forget about Landen Roupp, who had a great season before going down with a left knee sprain and bone bruise.
