The Red Sox are reportedly targeting a $53M five-time All-Star and Silver Slugger as a potential replacement for Alex Bregman. lt

The Boston Red Sox have a huge offseason ahead of them, as they need to make some upgrades for their franchise, but they also need to find a potential replacement for Alex Bregman, who has entered free agency this offseason.

While most think the Sox will retain Bregman, Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes in the hypothetical timeline that they don’t, the Sox will acquire five-time All-Star Pete Alonso as a replacement.

“Few MLB contenders need more help at first base than Boston. The Red Sox are becoming more aggressive with their spending, and Bregman’s hypothetical departure opens up a bunch of payroll space. You could argue that, given the construct of this Red Sox roster, Alonso might be more valuable at the end of the day. His power would play beautifully behind Roman Anthony toward the top of the Boston lineup,” Kline wrote.

This past season, Alonso slashed .272/.347/.524/.871 with 41 doubles, 38 home runs, and 126 RBI in 162 games played. Combining him with the offense of rising star Roman Anthony, the Sox would be feared.

However, the Sox shouldn’t only get Alonso if they fail to retain Bregman. The goal is a dynasty, and to do that, they need to spend money. That means re-signing Bregman, AND getting Alonso.

Hopefully, they realize that and start negotiations with Scott Boras and Alonso right away.
