As the San Diego Padres began their four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night, third baseman Manny Machado was able to make league history.
Heading into the game, Manny Machado was just two hits shy of 2,000 for his career.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, he reached the milestone with his second hit of the night – an infield single.
He joined the 2,000 hit club on Monday night, making him the 295th player in league history to achieve the milestone.
It took Machado 1,825 games to reach 2,000 hits, joining a list of active players that includes Freddie Freeman, Jose Altuve, Andrew McCutchen, and Paul Goldschmidt.
2,000 career hits was just one milestone that Machado has achieved this season, as he hit his 350th career home run last month, and his 1,000th run scored back in April.
Machado has been one of the best third basemen in the MLB since making his debut in 2012.
After getting drafted as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, it took Machado just over two years to climb the minor leagues and reach the majors.
In his 14 seasons in the MLB, playing for the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres, his ability to mix dominant defense with a hard-hitting bat has led him to seven All-Star selections, two Gold Gloves, two Silver Slugger awards, as well as a Platinum Glove Award in 2013.
This milestone is just one more to add to the list for the San Diego Padres’ all-time home run leader.
