Blockbuster concept: Mets could snag 2-time All-Star in daring 4-player swap with Brewers.ht

The New York Mets need an ace, and they could explore the trade market this winter to make it happen. One way could do so is if president of baseball operations David Stearns plucks a pitcher from his old team.

Freddy Peralta is at a point in his contract where plenty of star Milwaukee Brewers pitchers have been traded. With one more year of club control remaining, the Brewers might look to capitalize on his value. His $8 million club option for next season was picked up, but he will be a free agent after.

The Brewers traded Josh Hader, Devin Williams and Corbin Burnes ahead of their free agency, while the team was still in a spot to contend. Peralta is cheap for next season and could net the Brewers a haul. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller proposed this trade to bring Peralta to the Mets.

  • Brewers receive: RHP Jonah Tong, OF Eli Serrano III and C/1B/OF Chris Suero
  • Mets receive: RHP Freddy Peralta

Peralta is a true ace who posted a 2.70 ERA with 204 strikeouts last season. The two-time All-Star has made at least 30 starts in each of the last three seasons and would instantly lead the Mets’ rotation.

Losing Tong would be a blow to the Mets, but the Brewers would likely want a young pitcher in return. Tong is a promising pitcher who could thrive with Milwaukee’s stellar pitching development.

The Mets would also be parting ways with Serrano, their No. 12 prospect, and Suero, their No. 15 prospect. The Brewers operate on a tight budget, so adding players with the future in mind is also something they would covet in any Peralta trade.
