The Philadelphia Phillies were rumored to be shopping Alec Bohm last offseason. However, the 2024 All-Star remained with the Phillies. He had a solid season, but the Phillies fell short of the World Series again.

Changes may be coming in Philadelphia, and Bohm is a player who could net a decent return in trade. However, the Phillies must first make a decision on whether to non-tender him. In reality, Bohm is a lock to be tendered a contract. He is one year away from free agency, has trade value and is projected to earn just $10.25 million.

Even if the Phillies can’t trade him, they would be unwise to non-tender him. He regressed last season, but still hit .287 with a .741 OPS. The Phillies could want an upgrade at the hot corner and may want to get something out of Bohm if they do not plan to pay him as a free agent. CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson predicted the Phillies would tender him a contract, but trade him.

“Next season will mark Bohm’s final year of team control, but I think he may have already appeared in his last game with the Phillies — to the extent that I’ve taken to polling sources in other front offices on if he’ll be part of the organization come Jan. 1,” wrote Anderson. “(Most of them say no.) He’s now 29 and his track record, save for the 2024 campaign, suggests he is what he is: a league-average hitter who traffics in singles and doubles and a subpar defensive third baseman. There’s a spot in a lineup for Bohm, no doubt. I just anticipate the Phillies will aim higher this offseason.”

Bohm would be an upgrade for many teams at third base, at least offensively. He is a solid player, but the Phillies are contenders, and he may not be what they need right now. He was already a hot name in trade rumors last offseason. This may finally be the year the Phillies move on.
