As the Houston Astros’ front office works to make moves to improve the team this offseason, one of its biggest stars made one of his biggest moves.

Astros shorstop Jeremy Peña announced his engagement to Canadian soccer star Julia Grosso as the couple shared photos that captured the moment on Instagram on Friday afternoon.

The 28-year-old shortstop popped the question on a beach in St. Lucia, kneeling in rose-covered sand in front of a huge light display that read “Marry Me.”

The couple’s engagement post is flooded with well-wishers, including Astros’ field reporter Julia Morales, Carlos Correa’s wife Daniella Correa Rodriguez and Alex Bregman’s wife Reagan Bregman. Julia Grosso’s sister Carli commented, “My favs are engaged!”

Peña is entering his fifth season in the big leagues and coming off the best season of his career, hitting .304 with 17 home runs and 62 RBIs in 2025 while making his first All-Star team. He has two more years left of arbitration before he can become a free agent when he figures to get a huge contract. As a rookie in 2022, Peña helped the Astros win their second championship and he was named World Series MVP.

Grosso is best known for scoring the match-winning penalty kick to give Canada the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. In 2022, she earned the golden boot at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship as the event’s top scorer. She also was on Canada’s 2024 Olympic team. Grosso played in 11 international games for Canada in 2025 and scored two goals.
