Cubs reportedly eye a stunning blockbuster deal for a $185 million two-time Cy Young star who could replace Shota Imanaga and fast-track Cade Horton’s rise. lt

The Chicago Cubs have one of their more important offseasons in recent memory this year, as they need to replace their superstar in Kyle Tucker and their ace in Shota Imanaga. However, there may be a way to do the latter quite easily.

Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes that two-time Cy Young and five-time All-Star Jacob deGrom could replace Imanaga, and could be a step in the right direction in replacing the starpower of Tucker.

“Jed Hoyer tends to circumvent the top of the market when he can, but the Chicago Cubs have expressed their desire to focus on front-line pitching to supplement Matthew Boyd and Justin Steele as the latter returns from injury. deGrom’s contract is brief, if pricey, but Chicago has the resources. It’s a simple question of whether or not ownership has the gumption and the desire to win. If so, deGrom would be a welcomed answer to the prayers of a desperate fanbase, giving the Cubs the 1A they so desperately need,” Kline wrote.

This past season, deGrom posted a 12-8 record, a 2.97 ERA, 185 Ks, and a 0.921 WHIP over 172 innings pitched. He would instantly become the ace of the Cubs and give Chicago the best pitching staff in their division.

Getting deGrom would also be great to act as a mentor for their future ace in Cade Horton. What’s better than a two-time Cy Young teaching your rising star?

Hopefully, the Cubs consider trading for deGrom, start building a package to offer, and go from there.
