Orioles add Cameron Foster, Reed Trimble to 40-man roster; Vázquez, Léon designated for assignment
The Orioles added two players to their 40-man roster on Tuesday, right-hander Cameron Foster and outfielder Reed Trimble. The moves protect both players from being selected in next month’s Rule 5 draft.
Foster was acquired from the New York Mets in the trade that sent left-hander Gregory Soto to New York on July 25th. He had a 3.38 ERA in 13 games for Triple-A Norfolk, striking out 23 batters in 16 innings. Foster, who’s 26, is the second pitcher acquired from the Mets at the trade deadline to be added to the 40-man roster.

Earlier this month, the Orioles selected the contract of right-hander Anthony Nunez, who came from the Mets in the deal that sent Cedric Mullins to New York.
Trimble was a second-round pick of the Orioles in 2021, and the 25-year-old switch-hitter hit .259 with an .827 OPS with 17 home runs and 49 RBIs in 90 games at Norfolk, Double-A Chesapeake, High-A Aberdeen and the Florida Complex League Orioles. He stole 21 bases without being caught. In his five minor league seasons with the Orioles, Trimble has gone 61-for-61 in stolen base attempts.
The Orioles designated infielder Luis Vázquez and outfielder Pedro Léon for assignment.
Vázquez, who was signed to a major league contract for 2026 on October 30th, hit .160 with a home run and three RBIs in 32 games. He also threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
Léon was claimed off waivers from Houston on November 6th. He was 2-for-20 (.100) in seven games for the Astros in 2024.

The 40-man roster is full, and if the Orioles want to select players in the Rule 5 draft on December 10th, they’ll have to trim at least one player.
Urías designated for assignment: Infielder Ramón Urías was designated for assignment by Houston on Tuesday. Urías was traded to the Astros for right-handed pitcher Twine Palmer on July 31st.
Urías hit .248 with eight home runs and 34 RBIs with a .688 OPS in 77 games with the Orioles. In 35 games with Houston, Urías hit .223 with three homers and 10 RBIs and a .640 OPS.
According to estimates by MLBTradeRumors.com, Urías was due for a $4.4 million salary in 2026, and if he’s not claimed by the 8 p.m. Friday deadline for offering players contracts, he can be signed for less than his arbitration-eligible number.
