Emma Meesseman, Rising Star (ABC7)
WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Emma Meesseman is living the dream.
“I get to see the world, I get to meet new people,” said Meesseman.
The 23-year-old Mystics Center is a rising star in the WNBA.
“You can tell she soaks it up all the time and wants to get better,” said Mystics Head Coach Mike Thibault.

Meesseman’s basketball journey has not been easy. As a preschooler, Emma learned that she was hearing-impaired.
“We did some tests. Both sides, 50 percent deaf.” said Meesseman.
Meesseman plays with a hearing aid in each ear.

“It may actually help her in some ways because she knows she has to focus on what coaches and teammates are saying,” said Thibault.
Emma’s life has come full-circle. A quiet girl from Belgium has blossomed into an All-Star in the WNBA. Meesseman is using her platform today to inspire the hearing-impaired community.
“Once you know you can be an example for other people it’s a great feeling, the chance you have to make other kids play basketball or other sports, said Meesseman, “Go for it. Don’t let anything stop you or anybody stop you.”
