Finishing the 2025 season with a .268 batting average, 25 home runs and 71 RBIs, Fernando Tatis Jr. was one of the San Diego Padres’ most influential players.
The outfielder played a starring role in helping the Friars qualify for the playoffs, winning his third All-Star selection and second Platinum Glove in the process.
Despite being one of his team’s most influential players, rumors have linked Tatis with a move away from Petco Park this offseason, as the Padres navigate a potential change of ownership.
Featuring on Thursday’s episode of “Friar Territory,” insider Marty Caswell gave a definitive verdict on the matter.
“I can’t imagine them trading their most marketable star,” Caswell said (Timestamp: 7:44). “One of the most marketable stars in baseball, forget just in San Diego. He’s a fan favorite, he is so highly popular. When you talk about the skillset of the players they do have, there’s no one that has better tools than Tatis.
“They just have to figure it out. Craig Stammen has to go ahead and untap something in that talent to show that this guy can be what he said before last year’s FanFest – the best player in all of baseball.”
“It’s more fantasy than reality” – insider has his say on chances of Fernando Tatis Jr.’s trade
Featuring on Nov. 26’s episode of Foul Territory, insider Ken Rosenthal offered his two cents on the trade speculation that has been surrounding Fernando Tatis Jr.
“Would the Padres even trade TatĂs?” Rosenthal said. “They are in much more of a financial bind than they’ve been in past years. They don’t have as much flexibility and they have to address their pitching, with Cease and King free agents and Robert Suárez as well. Would they trade TatĂs?
“New York Yankees fans I think have been fantasizing about this too… It seems to me right now it’s more fantasy than reality. TatĂs is a beloved player in San Diego. He’s still young, he’s still highly productive. He’s been a bit more inconsistent than you’d want, I get it, but man, I have a hard time seeing them [trading him].”

Fernando Tatis Jr. signed a fourteen-year, $340 million contract with the Padres in 2021, that keeps him under team team control through 2034.
