After the Devin Williams Splash, Insiders Now See the Mets Targeting a $190 Million Astros Ace in a Stunning Power Move.ht

Picture backgroundThe New York Mets might be the most desperate team in the league this offseason.

They made some big moves last offseason, but they whiffed on the postseason this year. As a result, the Mets are likely looking to add a lot of talent before opening day next year. They kicked off their offseason by signing Devin Williams away from the New York Yankees on a solid three-year contract. Now, they’re going to need to add a starting pitcher in the coming weeks.

FanSided’s Mark Powell recently predicted the Mets would land Houston Astros ace Framber Valdez in free agency. Valdez is projected to sign a monster $190 million deal this winter, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic.

“Dylan Cease was the first high-profile starting pitcher to go this winter, signing a seven-year, $210 million deal with the Toronto Blue Jays,” Powell wrote. “Cease was connected to several other contenders, including the Cubs and Mets, both of whom are in need of starting pitching. Considering Valdez was expected to receive an even higher AAV than Cease, his market should move quickly at the Winter Meetings. A team like the Mets, which desperately needs rotation help, can’t afford to wait around.”

He’s seemingly the top pitcher left on the market after Dylan Cease signed a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Given the fact that Cease signed for $210 million, Valdez could be headed for a similar number. The Mets have the money to make a deal happen. The idea makes perfect sense.
