The Cleveland Guardians have the best third baseman in baseball. Jose Ramirez has been on a tear for years, and the numbers back up the eye test.
Ramirez, who finished third in AL MVP voting this season, ranks near the top in most MLB categories. That’s why it’s not a surprise to see him continue his push up MLB’s active baserunner rankings.
As shown by MLB Stats, Ramirez ranks fifth among active players in stolen bases. With 287, he trails only Starling Marte, Billy Hamilton, Jose Altuve and Trea Turner.
Some might talk about how new rules and bigger bases have helped players pile up more stolen bases, and that might be true to a degree. Nevertheless, Ramirez is among the leaders in that regard, with totals built before any changes.

It’s a shame to see that Ramirez hasn’t gotten the national recognition he deserves. He has yet to win AL MVP, but that’s what comes from playing for a small-market team, especially with Aaron Judge putting up big numbers for the New York Yankees.
Hopefully, Ramirez will win the award someday. More importantly, he’ll keep trying for the ultimate prize and win a World Series before his career is over.
