💥 BREAKING NEWS: “I feel very special and loved” — Padres give young students an unforgettable holiday shopping spree that melts hearts ⚡. tn

Padres hold back-to-school shopping spree for Monarch School students impacted by homelessness

One hundred Horton Elementary School fourth and fifth-graders were treated to a holiday shopping spree on Wednesday as part of a continuation of the Padres giving tour.

“We got matching outfits. We’re going to wear them on Friday,” said Miracle Brown & Shenaica Heri, students at the school.

“Horton Elementary School is a school that’s in a very poor, under-resourced area of San Diego, so it’s really impactful for us to be able to give these kids this special shopping experience today,” said Erik Greupner, Padres CEO.

Former and current Padres players shopped alongside the kids who made their lists and checked them twice.

“To take a moment and step back and realize how much good things we’ve been given that we really don’t deserve, an opportunity, to share that and see the joy it brings to other people’s faces, I want to do that, I want to do that more, I need that reminder, our kids need that reminder,” said Jason Adam, pitcher for the team.

Each student receives $200 to buy holiday gifts for loved ones and something for themselves.

“We’re having them work on their math skills, their mental math, they have their budget and they’ve been thinking about the items that they’ll be getting for their families and just trying to budget that in,” said Danielle Garegnani, the school’s principal.

Some students said they’ve never been able to shop at a store for gifts before, making this experience even more unforgettable.

“And it always is so rewarding to be able to see just these kids get the opportunity to have access to some gifts that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford,” said Greupner.

“I felt really good because my dad can never fork out the money to get Christmas gifts for my mom or my sisters or any of my family members, so this is really special,” said Aiden Ortiz, a student.

Ortiz says his Christmas usually consists of small toys and his mother making traditional food, but this year, he was able to get something for everyone.

“I feel very special and loved,” said Ortiz.
