After falling short of glory, the Blue Jays are unleashing their $189M star in a comeback that could shock the league.vt

The Toronto Blue Jays were in the World Series last season despite having a depleted bullpen and a struggling starting rotation. But their lineup was one of the best units in baseball this season, and it helped carry them to the postseason and beyond.

The Blue Jays are set to lose Bo Bichette in free agency after a spectacular season in Toronto. Bichette has spent his entire professional career with the Blue Jays, but he’s projected to sign for $189 million, per Jim Bowden of the Athletic, so he could be leaving town this winter.

Sportsnaut’s Matt Johnson recently predicted Bichette would re-sign with the Blue Jays this offseason, which would be a huge move in the right direction for Toronto.

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette

“There’s something special in coming up with an organization, spending your early career experiencing the ups and downs of development and growth alongside an All-Star teammate, and then helping your team reach the World Series. All of this is to say that it feels like a matter of when, not if, Bo Bichette re-signs with the Toronto Blue Jays,” Johnson wrote Friday. “That didn’t always feel like a given, but Bichette playing through a knee injury in the World Series and nearly being the biggest reason why the team won a championship carries a lot of weight. Toronto made the long-term commitment to Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and it truly feels like the Jays will keep the duo together.”

The Blue Jays need to do everything in their power to bring Bichette back.

Bichette is one of the best players on the team. Signing him to a seven or eight-year deal would be the best case to keep the team at the top of the AL going forward.

There are bound to be other top teams going after Bichette, but the Blue Jays need to make him their No. 1 priority.
