🚨 JUST IN: Cubs Target Elite $154M Ace in High-Stakes Winter Meetings ⚡ lt

The Chicago Cubs are seemingly bound to lose superstar outfielder Kyle Tucker in free agency this winter. They’ve never given out a contract larger than $200 million, and Tucker is projected to sign for nearly $400 million.

As a result, the Cubs will probably pivot to a backup plan this offseason.

They could look to add pitching to their roster, but they’re going to need to replace Tucker in the outfield. While looking at pitching options, it seems like the Cubs have their eyes on an ace.

MLB insider Jon Heyman recently reported the Cubs were interested in international free agent Tatsuya Imai at the winter meetings. Imai is projected to sign a $154 million deal this winter, per Jim Bowden of The Athletic, which would be a steep cost, but one the Cubs could afford.

Imai has been very vocal about his desire to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers, which should be music to the Cubs’ ears. He’s one of the most talented pitchers on the market, but he’s a bit of a wild card, considering he’s never thrown a pitch in MLB.

Still, he’s as talented as anybody else on the market. The Cubs have done well in the international market, especially with the addition of Shota Imanaga, and they could continue to add to the pitching staff by signing Imai.
