Bo Bichette is flirting with a division rival.
Following a trip to the World Series with the Toronto Blue Jays, the now-free agent shortstop recently had a āseriousā Zoom meeting with the Boston Red Sox,Ā according to a report from Ari AlexanderĀ of Bostonās 7News.
āIt went well on both sides, per sources,ā Alexander posted Monday night on X, where he included a thread of notes and reports from what heās heard at MLB Winter Meetings down in Orlando, Florida.
āBichette came away impressed with the Red Sox, Iām told,ā he added. āThe Red Sox have shown to be serious about the free agent.ā
Bichette, 27, is one of the most sought-after free agents on the market this season, fresh off a 2025 campaign in which he hit .311 with an .840 OPS and 18 homers, 44 doubles, and 94 RBIs in 139 games.
Sidelined for nearly two months after a collision at the plate in early September left him with a sprained knee, the two-time All-Star finally returned to the field during the World Series and went 8-for-23 (.348) with six RBIs.
The son of former Silver Slugger Dante Bichette flexed his familial might when delivering the signature moment of his Blue Jays career, crushing a go-ahead, three-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in Game 7 of the World Series.
If Bichette jumps ship for Boston, the shortstop would likely need to deviate from his natural position, as veteran infielder Trevor Story currently patrols the six-spot.
But an infield spot could be up for grabs, with star third baseman Alex Bregman once again entering free agency after opting out of theĀ three-year, $120 million dealĀ he signed ahead of the 2025 season.Ā Bichette also shifted to second base after making his World Series return.
Boston remains interested in a reunion with Bregman but is preparing for a potential divorce and has been weighing free agent options ā including former Mets first baseman Pete Alonso ā and the trade market to fill a potential infield void,Ā according to Alexander.
The Red Sox, whose season came to an end in the American League Wild Card series against the rival Yankees, have been active this offseason as they aim to bolster their roster around ace Garrett Crochet and burgeoning outfielder Roman Anthony.
In November, the Sox acquired ex-Yankee pitcher Sonny Gray in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals, laying the groundwork for aĀ controversial press conferenceĀ that sparked added tension between the AL East rivals.
That would be merely an appetizer for the divisional bedlam to ensue if Boston nabs Torontoās prized shortstop.
