🔥 HOT NEWS: Elephant Rumblings stir excitement as Spring Training looms and a new season starts to feel real ⚡.vt

Happy Monday A’s fans!

This winter has been a quiet one for the A’s and with Christmas right around the corner baseball season is fast approaching. There’s just 57 days left until pitchers and catchers report (give or take a day) and then a week later spring games will get underway. Meanwhile the Athletics have been fairly quiet with only one major league signing to date. The addition of Mark Leiter Jr. crosses one item off the offseason to-do list, but there’s still additions that need to be made.

There’s a need in most areas of the team. The starting pitching has bodies but could use another arm or two in the rotation. It’s likely some of the guys in the starting five will find themselves on the IL at some point. And there’s still plenty of room to add another arm or two to the bullpen, which is still lacking a true closer. The infield could be more or less set but adding someone capable of playing either second base or third would be huge. We can’t expect or rely on Zack Gelof at this point, though hopefully 2026 is the year he can stay healthy and put it all together. We saw what he could do when he first made it to the A’s a couple of years ago but he hasn’t come anywhere close to that since. It would be nice to have a fallback option in case we get a repeat of the past couple seasons with him.

And the same goes for the hot corner, where if the season started today it’d probably be either Darell Hernaiz or Max Muncy. Neither of those guys should be starters right now and would benefit from acting more as depth down in Triple-A. The A’s probably will go with one of those two as the starter since they’ll struggle to entice upgrades on the free agent market to come here.

Time’s running out for some additions, but we still got some time to tinker with the team. Let’s hope we cross one thing off the to-do list before February rolls around. Don’t want to wait to do all the shopping at the last minute.

Have a great week everyone!
