🔥 HOT NEWS: Bo Bichette Speaks—and the Fallout Could Be Felt Across Free Agency ⚡. tn

Bob Nightengale delivers incredible update on Bo Bichette's contract with the Blue Jays

Free agent infielder Bo Bichette has reportedly begun telling teams that he’d be willing to move from shortstop to second base, where he played in the World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com had that information on MLB Network.

“I think, after watching him play second base in the World Series, is probably a good move. He’s not a great shortstop, but showed that he can play second base…There are a lot of teams in need of second base.”

Feinsand went onto list the Blue Jays, Giants, Mariners and Red Sox as just a handful of teams that could use second base help.

What this means for the Blue Jays

Well, it means there’s more potential competition for Bichette’s services now. With Bichette willing to open himself up to a different role moving forward, there’s a chance for more teams to get involved, including at least one of Toronto’s division rivals (Boston).

How about the money?

As we stated on Tuesday, the money doesn’t really seem to matter to the Blue Jays. They have it and they are prepared to spend it. If they want a player, they are prepared to go out and get him, as they’ve done with Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers and Cody Ponce already this offseason.

Kiley McDaniel of ESPN recently projected Bichette to get five-years and $150 million, which was an increase from his original estimate, for whatever that’s worth.

Do the Blue Jays even want him back?

Blue Jays re-signing Bo Bichette chances given major update from MLB insider | Sporting News

This is really the biggest question at hand. If the Blue Jays sign Bichette and play him at second, they’d move Andres Gimenez to shortstop. That would likely keep Ernie Clement at third base and Addison Barger in the outfield with Daulton Varsho and George Springer.

However, would the Jays prefer to sign outfielder Kyle Tucker? That would bump Barger to third and Clement to second, in all likelihood.

Is that a better outcome for Toronto?

About Bichette’s season

Bichette just wrapped up his seventh season in Toronto by hitting .311 with 18 homers and 94 RBIs, and that was despite missing most of the final month of the season with a knee injury.

About the other suitors

The Giants and Mariners are both looking to acquire Cardinals infielder Brendan Donovan, so whichever one misses out could end up making a play for Bichette. The Red Sox seem to want Alex Bregman back, but if they are unable to secure him, they could pivot to Bichette as well.
