The Boston Red Sox are one of the better teams in the American League right now, but they’re not making the aggressive moves in free agency that many expected them to make.
They whiffed on Pete Alonso and Kyle Schwarber earlier this offseason. Alex Bregman sits in free agency, and there’s a chance he could bolt before the winter is over. But they could lose other players, too.
Just Baseball’s Ryan Finkelstein predicted the Red Sox would lose Lucas Giolito to the San Francisco Giants on a two-year, $32 million deal this winter.

“The Giants are not expected to pay at the top of the free agent market to add to their rotation, but they need some help in the middle of that rotation behind Logan Webb and Robbie Ray. Giolito can slot in and cover some key innings for the Giants, and they won’t have to break the bank to sign him.”
The Giants desperately need to add a starting pitcher or two this winter after trading away a few starters in the trade to land Rafael Devers.
Giolito is the perfect mix of productive and affordable. The Giants could be hunting one of the top starters, too, which would make the signing of Giolito make a lot of sense. If they can land Giolito and a top starter, they’d have a much better chance in the National League West next season.
