Elizabeth Kitley’s resume speaks for itself during her time at Virginia Tech.

Let’s give a brief rundown of some of the eye-popping accolades. Kitley was a four times she was named First Team All-ACC, three times she was ACC Player of the Year, on the All-ACC Defensive Team, and WBCA Coaches Al-American. That doesn’t even take a deep dive into her stats.

Let’s not forget her leading the Hokies to their first-ever Final Four appearance two years ago and last season’s ACC regular season title. Unfortunately, she would not have another chance at a Final Four run after suffering a season-ending torn ACL in the regular season final at Virginia. Regardless, what she accomplished during her time in Blacksburg was eye-opening, to say the least.

What was her favorite thing that she accomplished at Virginia Tech? You might be surprised to hear it, but if you have been paying attention to her during her time as a Hokie, you shouldn’t be surprised.

Liz Kitley reveals favorite accomplishment during her career at Virginia Tech

Kitley appeared on ACC PM with Mark Packard and Taylor Tannebaum and she was asked what her one favorite accomplishments from her journey at Virginia Tech.

“I have to recognize our Final Four run, I feel like that is so insanely special,” Kitley said. “My favorite thing that me and the team were able to accomplish was the way we were able to sell out Cassell (Coliseum) as the years went on and the support that we had for women’s basketball in Blacksburg. That was nothing we expected, especially my first two years, it was exciting for us to get a couple of thousand people in the stands, but when we started having full student sections and a traveling crowd and the passion of the fans….. It’s something so special and not recreated in a lot of environemnts, but we had that.”

It was even noticed by people outside of the program as well. Last season when Miami came to Blacksburg for an ACC game, former Hurricanes’ coach Katie Meier commented on the crowd and what the atmosphere at Cassell Coliseum was like for a women’s game. It’s safe to say that Kitley was a big reason why women’s basketball has come to the forefront at Virginia Tech and on Sunday, she’ll be honored with her jersey being retired into the rafters at Cassell Coliseum.
