Blue Jays phenom Trey Yesavage gets engaged after historic World Series run

You would think that after a year that saw Trey Yesavage begin the baseball season in the furthest depths of the minors and ascend all the way to the pinnacle of the sport – setting a World Series record in the process — the Blue Jays phenom wouldn’t be able to top that moment any time soon.

Yet, somehow he has.

The rookie starting pitcher announced his engagement to girlfriend Taylor Frick in a joint Instagram post on Friday, complete with stunning photos from the beachside proposal.

“In this lifetime & the next, it will always be you,” Frick wrote as a caption.

The post features photos of Yesavage down on bended knee popping the question, the 6-foot-4 righty lifting her in the air in an embrace, and a close-up of the large diamond ring on Frick’s finger.

Congratulations from teammates

Several Blue Jays teammates as well as wives and girlfriends liked and commented on the post, congratulating the happy couple.

“What a year! Congrats, we are so excited for y’all,” Jessica Bassitt, wife of pitcher Chris, commented on the post.

Emily Little, the wife of reliever Brendon Little, wrote “the best news ever” and “AHHH congratulations!!!”

While it’s unclear which beach the couple were on when he dropped to one knee, the pair were at East Carolina University homecoming last weekend.

The 22-year-old Yesavage, who is from Pottstown, Penn., and Frick, a Maryland native, met while attending college together in Greenville, N.C.

“He must have got his postseason bonus cheque. Happy for the two of them,” one user commented on Reddit.

Yesavage, however, did get a $4,175,000 US signing bonus after he was selected by the Jays in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft. In 2026, he is scheduled to earn $820,000.

What record did Yesavage set?

Yesavage was one of the many heroes for the Blue Jays during their run to within one game of winning the World Series. The powerful and precocious youngster with a lethal splitter struck out a rookie Fall Classic record 12 Dodgers hitters during the team’s Game 5 win.

He also impressed in his post-season debut, striking out 11 New York Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS and then also picked up a Game 6 win against the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS.

Yesavage earned the Game 1 start in the World Series and struck out five Dodgers in four innings as the Jays would go on to win the contest 11-4.

After the team’s playoff run ended, Frick praised her now-fiance’s improbable rise from the minor leagues at the start of the season to the World Series in another heartfelt post.

“Although you have changed uniforms more times than I can count, your heart and drive has never altered,” she wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the two embracing. “You have stayed humble, kind, and true to the person you were in the purple and gold uniform from the day I met you.”

Yesavage family attacked

The playoff run wasn’t without some off-field ugliness, however. Before he started Game 2 of the ALCS, Yesavage implored people to stop attacking his loved ones, an odious byproduct to his impressive rise to prominence with the Blue Jays.

“I want to start off by saying something,” Yesavage said during a media availability session. “Living in this world where there’s so many different opinions and feelings which results in a lot of hate, it’s sad to see that people close to me are being attacked for my performances on the field.

“These people have done nothing to warrant negativity for my actions, whether that’s my parents, brothers, my girlfriend, family. It’s just really sad.”

With his first full season in the Majors and a wedding on the horizon, 2026 should be another eventful one for Yesavage.
