⚡ LATEST UPDATE: Toronto lands in hot water as MLB cautions the Blue Jays over a bold marketing strategy that didn’t sit well with the league⚡.vt

After a promising 2025 season, the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to expand their global reach — but their latest marketing stunt appears to have backfired. In late November 2025, the team was unexpectedly accused of violating Major League Baseball (MLB) international rules after their logos appeared on the ring during an international boxing match in Tokyo, Japan.

Specifically, the Blue Jays’ image was “sprayed” across the ring — a move that was not approved by MLB, which controls all international marketing efforts of teams to prevent each team from trying to appeal to its own market.

While the Blue Jays insist this was not a “paid sponsorship” — according to a team statement — sources in the league office say they were not consulted beforehand, which could be considered a violation of the rules.

It’s unclear how MLB will handle this: it could be a simple warning, or worse — a ban on unsolicited international promotion, or even a financial penalty.

As the team looks to expand its reach into the Japanese market (after repeatedly being linked to Japanese players), the incident is a stark reminder that brand expansion is important — but it has to play by global rules.
