📢 TOP STORY: Toronto’s proposed “culture-changing” trade sparks speculation and controversy⚡ lt

The Toronto Blue Jays may soon make a trade that is far more significant than it appears. The reigning American League champions are looking to reload following their recent failed World Series appearance. Toronto has already made two significant signings involving pitchers Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce, and wants to make more moves.

The Blue Jays remain heavily linked with top free agent sluggers Kyle Tucker and Bo Bichette. Acquiring Tucker would, in turn, give the team a surplus of outfielders. As a result, Toronto is expected to trade a current outfielder to make room for the star. They could even make a move without signing Tucker. According to The Athletic, Nathan Lukes, Myles Straw, and Joey Loperfido are all trade candidates.

At the moment, Lukes is expected to be Toronto’s starting left fielder on opening day. This, of course, would change if the Blue Jays grab Tucker. Loperfido can also play either corner outfield position and impressed by hitting .333 in 41 games during 2025. Straw, on the other hand, is an extremely popular figure on the team. In fact, The Athletic’s writers claimed that dealing Straw could very well affect the team’s culture.

“Trading Straw on top of potentially losing both free-agent right-handers Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt potentially would affect the Jays’ culture, which all involved with the club said was critical to the team’s success in October,” claimed Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.

Myles Straw Trade Could Affect Bo Bichette’s Future with the Toronto Blue Jays

GettyMyles Straw is very popular with his Toronto Blue Jays teammates.

Straw may not put up massive numbers at the plate for the Blue Jays like Bichette or Vladimir Guerrero Jr. In fact, the veteran outfielder had just two hits in 18 at-bats throughout the 2025 postseason. Nevertheless, Toronto manager John Schneider and Bichette labeled Straw a “glue guy” back in October.

Typical starting center fielder Daulton Varsho also raved about Straw’s impact on the team at the time. “He’s a great teammate,” Varsho said of Straw. “He’s a guy where he doesn’t do more than what he needs to do. And that’s what makes him so good is that he’s able to be himself and not have to try to be this superhuman guy, and just go out there and play baseball and do everything he can to help the team win.”

Straw’s influence on Bichette is particularly interesting. The star infielder is a free agent, and while he has been expected to return to Toronto, a deal has not yet been completed. The Boston Red Sox are also pursuing an agreement with Bichette.

It remains to be seen just how Straw’s future with the club will affect Bichette. The shortstop did, however, claim that the 2025 Blue Jays were the closest team he has ever been a part of, and Straw plays a major part in that.

Blue Jays Brass Still Looking to Acquire More Pitching

It appears that Blue Jays execs may be willing to rock the boat in order to further address their pitching issues. Despite the Cease and Ponce signings, Toronto wants to bring in additional arms. Potentially using Straw as trade bait could help solve this problem.

Top free agent relievers are also quickly coming off the board and signing with new clubs. The Blue Jays missed out on grabbing Edwin Diaz, Devin Williams, and Ryan Helsley in recent days. As a result, Toronto may be forced to make a trade to acquire quality arms this winter.
