Coming into the matchup, the Chicago Sky were surrounded by rumors of dysfunction, specifically as it pertains to Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. However, it appeared all was well with the two, if their actions during pregame were any indication of how their relationship truly was behind the scenes.

And throughout it all, Plum made sure that whatever was happening with the Sky off the court, she did not care for it one bit. Before the game, Plum embraced Reese and two shared a moment before the intensity for the game ratcheted up to eleven as both teams looked to snap their current losing streaks.

Kelsey Plum hits Angel Reese with the "too small" gesture

In the first half, Reese found herself guarding Plum on the perimeter and immediately the two-time WNBA champion went to work. Sensing the mismatch, Plum charged right by Reese, with the 23-year-old doing her best to catch up to the speedy guard.

Despite being defeated, Reese did not give up, chasing after Plum as the veteran made her way to the basket. Reese then reached out, hoping to block Plum’s shot, but it was too late – the star guard had already completed the layup, with the star seemingly sprinting back on defense.Picture background

As she ran back to play the other side of the ball, she reached down and gestured to the crowd that Reese was “too small”‘ to guard her. The fans in attendance appreciated how the star showed out and led the Sparks to their most energetic start against an upset team looking to notch its first win of the season.

What’s more, Plum showed just how much of a threat she is, regardless of where she is on the court. In the third quarter, the star was nearly lights out from beyond the arc, nailing multiple 3-pointers to get the crowd on hand fired up for a potential win.

In the fourth quarter, Plum was elbowed in the face by Sky veteran Kia Nurse as the latter attempted to bring up the ball. As a testament to her grit and toughness, Plum remained in the game and wanted to shoot free throws, if the referees had overturned the initial call of a foul on Plum.

Still, it was not enough as Los Angeles walked away with the win, thanks to Plum’s 28 and Azura Stevens’ 24 points. For the Sky and Nurse, they are still trying to notch their first win of the season.

Nurse understands that with everything going on with the Sky, it could be easy to see how the team could be perceived. However, the veteran admitted things were better than expected.

“Yeah, everything is continuing to go in a positive manner,” Nurse said exclusively to Mirror U.S. Sports before the game . “Obviously, tough couple games to start out the season, but we are a new team, there’s a lot of new players, and we’re continuing to get to know one another, play with one another, and I think you’ll come through on that, so we’ll get there.”

“Not really, because LA last year was such a younger team compared to the one that this is, so, you know, I think you continue every single game to try and build upon the ones that happened before,” she continued.

“Again, LA this year is more of a newer team, and so I think there’s more parallels there.”
