Former UConn Women’s Basketball star Nika Muhl made her return to Connecticut for the first time as a pro.
After a great career with the Huskies, Nika Muhl is hoping to one day make her presence felt.
“Being at home, basically having all my people here, a lot of UConn fans in the building, it’s a beautiful feeling, and it’s good to be back,” Muhl said.
As a member of the Seattle Storm, Muhl made her return to Connecticut for back-to-back games with the Sun.

The former UConn star helped the Huskies reach the Final Four twice and win four Big East tournament titles, which were all played in Mohegan Sun Arena.
“It just reminds me of, you know, why I play. Because all these relationships with all these people that I’ve created, that’s what matters to me the most,” said Muhl.
Muhl is still waiting and working towards her moment to shine in the pros. So far during her rookie season, she’s only played in 13 games.
“Everybody looks at no playing as something that’s so horrible and so bad, but behind the scenes, I’m working. I’m working my butt off, I’m learning so much, watching film all the time, learning from the best players in the world, amazing coaches. I’m not missing anything. I’m just enjoying the process and this is my journey and that’s how it’s supposed to be,” said Muhl.
Diving deeper into the film is one way Muhl is improving her game with hopes of eventually having an impact in the league the same way other legendary UConn alums have in the past.
“At UConn, it’s very emphasized to watch film and all those things, but my emotional state at UConn, I wouldn’t want to see any film sometimes you know? But here, being able to watch Skylar’s (Diggins-Smith) film, watch our point guard and see how she does things and what she’s good at and what can I mimic,” explained Muhl.
The increasing excitement surrounding the WNBA and women’s basketball as a whole is an encouraging sign for Muhl and all the other young ballers out there looking to make their dream of playing pro ball a reality.
“It’s been about time! You know? I just feel like, looking at all our vets and all these players that are here before like, I always say like, they deserve their flowers, because we wouldn’t be standing here without them,” Muhl said.
