đŸ’„ BREAKING NEWS: A potential Red Sox–Royals trade, a major Devin Williams development, and a fresh Bo Bichette update ignite MLB headlines ⚡.vt

The MLB offseason is full of surprises, and the Boston Red Sox are looking to bolster their starting rotation after ending a three-year postseason drought in 2025. Garrett Crochet, their top pitching acquisition from the previous offseason, played a monumental role in their success this year. Now they are reportedly keen on adding another young left-hander, this time from the Kansas City Royals.

According to a report from Alex Spier of The Boston Globe, the Red Sox wish to secure a trade deal with the Royals for Cole Ragans. The 27-year-old southpaw was an MLB All-Star in 2024, finishing in fourth place in the American League Cy Young race. He had a disappointing 2025 campaign, in which he missed three months due to a rotator cuff strain.

Still, the Red Sox are reportedly willing to give up a sizeable package that would include Jarren Duran to seal the deal. Despite being the top performer of the team over the past two years, Duran is a constant subject for a move away from Fenway Park. The 29-year-old will definitely provide a much-needed thrust to the offensive production of the Royals’ outfield.

Meanwhile, the Red Sox will have a promising young starting pitcher for a bargain price if they can negotiate a deal. Ragans had penned a three-year, $13.5 million contract with the Royals ahead of the 2025 campaign. He will receive $4.5 million in 2026 and $7.5 million in 2027. On the other hand, Duran has an $8 million team option for next year.

The New York Mets completed a three-year deal for Devin Williams on Monday night, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The deal is estimated to be worth $45 million in wages. The player will receive an additional $6 million in signing bonus, spread over the duration of the contract. However, there are no opt-outs or options in the agreement.

Williams won the 2020 MLB NL Rookie of the Year award with the Milwaukee Brewers to become one of the premier closers in the game. He also won two NL Reliever of the Year awards during his six seasons with the team. The New York Yankees signed the 31-year-old ahead of the 2025 season for his final campaign before reaching free agency.

However, Williams endured a torrid time in the Bronx and was soon demoted from the closer role. He regained the position midway through the season but lost it again before the end. Eventually, he posted a career-worst 4.79 ERA and -0.3 bWAR before finishing with four scoreless innings during the MLB playoffs.

The disappointing season with the Yankees certainly held him back from earning an even larger deal. The pressure of playing in New York may have affected his performance this year. So, it remains to be seen how he copes on the other side of the city. For now, the Mets have a high-leverage reliever that can become their closer if they miss out on Edwin Diaz.

Blue Jays Still In The Hunt For Bo Bichette, Says MLB Insider

The Toronto Blue Jays have made the biggest move of the free agent market thus far with the reported seven-year, $210 million contract for Dylan Cease. However, they still have some major issues to resolve, such as bringing Bo Bichette back into the roster.

As per Sportsnet MLB columnist Shi Davidi, the lucrative deal offered to Cease will not prevent the Blue Jays from pursuing other top free agents. Davidi argues that it will only help their front office to make other big signings, as the organization is in a strong financial state.

“The way the Blue Jays have spoken about it, when there’s a business case to be made, if they can justify it, then they can go do it,” Davidi said on the Foul Territory podcast. “This doesn’t rule them out from anything else they want to do this offseason.

“There are a few more things they want to accomplish this offseason,” he added. “There are obvious needs. Bo Bichette is certainly key in that regard. I don’t think it cuts them off from anything. If anything, it just gives them more opportunity.”

Bichette has a .294/.337/.469 slash line over his seven-year career with the Blue Jays, while recording at least 175 hits in four of the last five seasons. Injuries hampered the 27-year-old shortstop in 2024, but he bounced back impressively from the setback this year.
